Corset Guide: Everything You Need To Know About How To Wear A Corset

Corsets have been worn by women for hundreds of years. They never go out of style!

When properly worn, a corset is so empowering, accentuating feminine curves, supporting posture and even helping with anxiety! Not to mention, they look sexy as.

This corset guide will teach you everything you need to know about wearing a corset to make sure you’re comfortable and feel fabulous. Eat your heart out, Bettie Page!

What Size Corset Should You Get?

To find the right corset size, measure yourself in inches around the narrowest part of your waist (usually just above your belly button).

When deciding what size corset you should get, pick one that’s anything up to 4 inches smaller than your waist — not your actual waist size.

Pro corset wearers can go up to 6 inches smaller than their actual waist size, but we don’t recommend this for beginners.

All Playful Promises corsets have a guide under the sizing on each product to help you select the right one.

How To Lace A Corset

Hooks and laces make putting a corset on look tricky, especially when you consider the laces have to be done up from behind!

We recommend you get assistance from someone to help lace your corset, or if you’re putting on your corset alone, use a mirror to help you. Once you know how to lace a corset, it will get easier over time.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to lace your corset:

  1. Unroll the corset so that all the laces are facing up.
  2. Starting from the center, pull the laces apart to loosen them.
  3. Put the corset on around your torso so that the clasps are at the front and the lace is at the back.
  4. Clasp the front hooks. It should be loose when you clasp it — leave the tightening to the lace!
  5. One by one, pull the laces from both the top and the bottom, working towards the middle. Pull the loops at the natural waist longer as you go.
  6. Once you’ve reached the desired tightness, tie the lengthened waist pull loops. You’re done!

How Tight Should A Corset Be?

When you first wear your corset, it will feel quite tight. This is normal. Your body needs to adapt to wearing a corset. Plus, the corset needs a few uses before it’s worn in.

Once you’ve worn your corset a few times, you will feel more comfortable as your body has grown accustomed to it, and you may find you can increase the tightness.

Always take off your corset if you feel any pain, shortness of breath or discomfort.

Can You Wear A Corset All Day?

How long you wear your corset comes down to one thing: comfort.

You may find you’re able to happily wear your corset for many hours. Or you may find 2-3 hours is enough. Either way is fine, so long as you feel comfortable.

While we don’t recommend wearing a corset for longer than 12 hours, you can wear a corset all day if you wish. Some people wear a corset for 12 hours or longer.

Listen to your body and let your own feelings and comfort decide. You can always have a break and take your corset off for a couple of hours then put it on again.

How To Wear A Corset: What Should You Wear It With?

Corsets can be used as undergarments or outerwear, depending on the style of corset you buy.

If you want to wear your corset under your clothing, choose outfits that aren’t too thin or tight, or else your corset might show through.

Corset tops, worn as outerwear, are a sexy and stylish statement that pair well with a blazer and jeans, over a shirt or with skirts or trousers. There are plenty of options when it comes to what to wear with your corset, so try out some new outfits and have fun discovering your personal corset style and flaunting your fabulous curves!
